Listening and Logic

“Just because it’s not your logic doesn’t mean it’s wrong.”

This is the line I use to win an argument with my husband, doesn’t always work but it sure does stop the discussion for minute. I bring this up because we are discussing listening and this is an important part of listening, there are a lot of different logics and opinions out there for us to listen to and while we may not always agree it doesn’t make them wrong. If we take the time to listen we might learn something. Learn something about the other person, learn about a new idea and hopefully they might in turn take the time to listen to us. Sharing ideas and listening is how we learn and grow.
Taking the time to listen and just taking time seems to be a common theme. This summer has been a different experience for me from last summer. One of the main reasons is my attitude. I feel better about myself - more confidence I know I can do this versus last year not knowing if I could or not. But one of the aspects that I made an effort to be better at is being there for my family. Taking the time for them and stopping to enjoy activities with them. It worked out so nice and I was still able to get my homework done -all things in moderation. My family was happier and I was too - being able balance my life and stress. (Now, I know I am very lucky to be able to live at home while going through this program but in all my message is the same all things in moderation).
So in all I think I learned listening and balancing life with work. We can take time out to relax, play and enjoy our family and friends and all of our “stuff” will still get done and our relationships with the ones that really matter to us will be the better for it.

  1. Jamie, I really appreciated your blog. I could really see today as I listened to cohort 11’s presentations that a process has evolved with all of you. I see where cohort 12 is right now and where we will be in a year. We are gathering our ideas together, increasing our confidence and starting to feel a little more grounded with where the program is headed. I have felt a little mixed up during the summer with the pressures of homework and being away from my children. I can see how it would be a big juggle to have them with me here because of the demands of the program. I congratulate you for balancing family and school this summer. Taking time to enjoy the small stuff is so important. I’m so glad that you had valuable family time and also finished up school on an incredibly high note. Thank you for the inspiration that you are to me.
